Diwali can be a joyous festival, but its essential for lung patients to take precautions to ensure their well-being.



Here are some tips and precautions for lung patients during Diwali:-


Avoid Smoke and Pollution:


  • Monitor Air Quality Index regularly

  • Stay away from firecrackers and areas with heavy smoke or pollution

  • Avoid indoor sources of pollution such as incense sticks, dhoop & scented candles

  • Use masks while dusting/ cleaning for Diwali


Indoor Celebrations:


  • If possible, celebrate Diwali indoors to minimize exposure to outdoor pollutants

  • Use alternatives to lamps such as electric lights & lamps

  • Stay away from firecrackers

  • Limit number of guests to minimise chances of infection


Use Air Purifiers:


Consider using air purifiers with HEPA filters in your home to help remove pollutants from the air.


Ventilation:


  • Ensure good indoor ventilation to improve air quality.

  • Keep windows and doors closed if outdoor air quality is poor

  • Plan visits outside according to the Air Quality Index

Diet:

  • Keep a bag ready with inhalers, sanitisers & masks alongwith emergency medications

  • Engage in relaxation techniques and stress management to maintain emotional well-being

  • Have an emergency action plan in case your symptoms worsen.

  • Know when to seek immediate medical help.

  • Share your health concerns with family and friends so they can help provide a safe and supportive environment during Diwali.

  • Be cautious to prevent accidents or fires that could result in smoke and fumes

  • Patients on oxygen should be careful
